The world as it is today, isn't compatible with the internet. Uninstall the world. I can't agree more than now. Internet for the win. World sucks. But after some time thinking I think the only way to unistall the world is hacking God's computer and then unistall Earth.exe and all your folders. How this will be possible? |

The world is too greedy, but the internet shows we want "none" of that. Free sites are by far the most popular ones, but that doesn't necessarily mean we want everything for free. Someone failed at realizing this and haven't been able to adapt - because they don't want to IMO.
The current situation we are in (finance crisis) shows what can happen when ppl/corporates get greedy. It's a disaster pointing fingers at the human nature, but no ones pointed out that POV. It's business right? Surely that have nothing to do with human nature... surely. It's easy to be big mouthed in hindsight, but fact is that I more or less stopped watching telly years ago. I stopped because I don't want to be reminded about how fucked this world is. I've been awaiting a disaster for some time now - not that I wanted it, or knew how it would show - last time when USA invaded Iraq.. it was WTF then and it's WTF now. Thats fucked up. But nothing happened then, and not much since then (globally), and thats even more fucked up. Screw the world, and then screw it again with a drill. -------------------- |

Turkey has blocked access to YouTube because of some content ridiculing Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (founder of Turkey).
Brazil wants to have YouTube shut down (globally!), but haven't been successful in reaching this goal (only because YouTube headquarters aren't located in Brazil) - instead various ISP's have started to block access to YouTube. The reason for this is a vid of a model (Daniela Cicarelli) having sex is available on YouTube. YouTube are currently disabling all music vids in UK, because they couldn't reach to an agreement with the music industry. YouTube have offered companies to filter content on their own, which they can do after licensing some software. It's a time consuming task as there are many videos available on YouTube. This task can also not be done by some auto-system filter - I guess you don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize that. None the less, YouTube are being flamed for the licensing scheme by the companies. Own medicine tastes crap, I guess. And then there is of cause the The Pirate Bay case, in which MPAA is suing the way the site works. As it have been mentioned many places, Google etc. are no different. Is this the face of greed (at the cost of utter most stupidity) we are seeing here, or can it really be true that money rules the world? MPAA etc. are fighting something that is so natural to us, that even news magazines in the electronics/IT area should know that a products like MP3 player USB to USB devices, which are clearly made for copying purposes would be illegal, but instead review and somewhat praise them, without any mentioning of it being illegal or not (there can be other uses as well, sure - but how many would be sharing word document etc vs music?). I don't expect music, movies etc. to be free. But the evolving stupidity in such cases are just overwhelming me. ...rant out! -------------------- |

Apparently this stunt by Google regarding UK music deals might be their way to negotiate a better deal. Apparently whoever they were dealing with for whatever reason wanted extortionate amounts of money.

True, that's what I read in the danish article about it. I actually doubt anything good will come out from this - not that it may turn worse, but I don't think anything will come out from it at all, seing how stubbern especially the music industry is. Thy have been struggling against the nature of the internet for many many years now and there may be many more to come before we see a somewhat sensible solution to the problem.
I forgot the info, links etc, but a not too old article stated (well, the author did) that the hunt for piracy is mumbo jumbo and is being exaggerated. Exaggerated in the scenes that while there is piracy going on, there is absolutely no guarantee that the person otherwise would have bought the album or track - I think there was a lawsuit with this outcome as well (ordinarily a person would get sued for all the illegally downloaded music, but in this case the question about whether or not the person would actually have bought the music was raised and played a big role). The author stated that many buy music which they ordinarily wouldn't have simply because by downloading gave them an opportunity to explore what else is around. I for one know that I won't go out a buy an album from a group/artist that I've never heard of or heard any of the tracks - why would I (not referring to that I could just download, but when you want to buy, u get that bit of a smaller wallet. And after a number of misfortunes, you'll probably don't do it again at all). I pay roughly speaking 100pounds every 6 months to be able to watch telly - and that's for the single nationally owned tv station we have. It's not like they will cut me off if I don't pay - it's required by law now, that EVERYONE that in some way or other can display telly, must pay. Even if you don't watch the national channel. If you don't have telly, but just a PC with at least 256kbit internet connection then you must pay. If you don't even have a PC, but have a cellular phone - with internet connection.. then you must pay. Why? What is it that forces the government to make as many as possible to pay? Their answer is simple - and the most stupid ever: Because there is free access to the telly stations website, on which they have decided to put shows on, free for visitors to view. We are in 2009 - didn't someone already invent a login system? Oh hang on, the biggest competitor is already doing that. So why? Well, our former telly station CEO messed up when the budget for a new and modernized location/facility was set. He/they got it wrong by 200-300% and we are talking about many many millions here. So.. now it's up to us - the tax payers - to fix that error.. in this way. Not saying the system is corrupt (but suggesting it, yes), but if something like that can get green lighted in a puny country, then what can't happen in industries where there are much more money involved? The finance crisis is the perfect example of whatever we are doing, we are doing it wrong. YouTube blog btw: http://www.youtube.com/blog?entry=oT85lN5Dkmo -------------------- |

Ok, this is kinda funny.. just stumpled upon latest news about a new tax law that got introduced here in DK not too long ago:
If you recieve any work related goodies like a home PC, phone, internet connection or whatever, then you as the receiving person must pay tax of it. The "tax" is a fixed figure and affect one person, not one home address - so if 2 persons have generous employers, then they both have to pay the tax. As said, it's a fixed figure - doesn't matter if you get free phone or state of the art computer. You pay the same. This is another stupid thing, and I really didn't understand why - why go after ppl who are trying to work.. and by working.. make more money.. and by making more money.. pay more tax. Now, according to the article I just read, it seems the government was too hasty. they are having second thoughts because of the "number of complaints". The fun part is: The TV license I mentioned earlier, affects primarily people in private. The "Multimedia tax" on the other hand affects industries and companies. I'm not buying into the deal about having second thought because of the number of complaints - there are many complaints regarding the telly "tax" thing. Difference here is - the way I see it, the commercial world (money) wins. Bu and hu. -------------------- |
