My3id Gaming started its life back in 2005 under the very different title of 'Clownpaint Gaming'. The team was originally formed as a way to fulfil the need for speed of its founder (Jack Basford) and as a small promotional tool for his web projects. From 2005-2007 the only game the team played was Live for Speed.
In the beginning the team was assembled based purely on speed, under the assumption that a fast team would be a winning team. It would soon become apparent that this was not the case. Such a selection process had one major flaw, it didn't evaluate the mind set and goals of the members before letting them join. One by one, members failed to deliver their potential when it was required. Some lost interest in Live for Speed altogether and the few that remained active hardly contributed to the team at all.
Tired of this cycle that had been on loop for several months now, Jack 'v1rg0' Basford decided to up the ante and devote more of his spare time to the project, with the goal of establishing a winning gaming team capable of attracting sponsors.
Yet the cycle continued. The initial goals had been forgotten in the hunger for victory and the lack of support from the members had destroyed morale all round. To top it off, the team was scouting all of the best up and coming talent but failing to secure them. A 'shopping list' of drivers was compiled and all were approached, but almost all declined a place in the team. Most immediately joined more established rivals and demonstrated why they had been short listed with a string of successful races. This 'hobby' had turned into a chore, a pointless, time-consuming one at that and it was time to move on. There were only two options at this point, merge and hand over leadership or shut down the team. The decision was made to attempt a merger with another team, in the process handing over the leadership role to someone who had more time and effort to spare. A merger would also bring a wave of new, more committed members.
A second party was discovered in the form of "Team Scream" and the details of the merger were agreed. The two teams would become "Team X". After the initial hype the merger failed to deliver. The leadership proved unable to achieve any sort of goals or targets and lacked the necessary qualities needed to establish a professional team. Lasting only a matter of months, on the surface the merger appeared a complete failure. However, this couldn't be further from the truth. Today the team is managed by one of the remaining members from the merger, Zafar 'r4ptor' Iqbal. With his experience at a high level in the Counter-Strike scene and will to push the team in the right direction, he was eventually established as team manager in 2007.
Finally getting its act together in late 2006 under the joint leadership of Jack 'v1rg0' Basford and Zafar 'r4ptor' Iqbal, the team took its first steps towards the podium, entering several internationally broadcast leagues on Live for Speed. A string of disappointing results followed that didn't represent the attitude or effort half of the members had put in. The performances spawned from hardware and member commitment issues, mostly the former. Despite this, 2006 represented a tipping point in the teams history. The previously passive attitude of the members was being overrun by a more hard-line approach. Around this time roughly half of the active team represented this new approach, with the other half being the polar opposite, serving only as a reminder of just how big a task it was going to be to turn things around. It represented a point at which activity was overtaking inactivity and dedication was, at last, becoming a majority trait.
All of the events up until this point caused a massive re-evaluation of the member selection process and the immediate dismissal of those that failed to comply. The team was making some progress in early 2007, with improved results and commitment from its members. Victories were still few and far between but the team was finally functioning properly and focused on achieving the results that it had set out over a year ago. Meanwhile off-track the team was being rebuilt from the ground up. Members witnessed a leap to a democratic system of management, giving them more influence over the direction of the team. Whilst this proved a smart move, it would not have been possible at an earlier point. The standard of the members themselves had risen considerably thanks to the tighter restrictions on recruitment.
In June of 2007 it was finally agreed that the team would change its name to My3id Gaming, to represent the change in the brand supplying it with gaming equipment. This proved to be a wise decision as July approached, with progress within the team coming at an alarming rate. New skins and tags were designed and a new website began construction. Within weeks all of the aforementioned were heavily developed. These were exciting times to be in the newly titled My3id Gaming Team for everyone involved. For a team established on such a level of professionalism and organisation, the future would surely be one of success.
As the changes neared completion morale and activity was at an all time high and still increasing. Team achievement records begun to be broken almost weekly as a result and all elements of the project were being rolled off the production line at a similar rate. Whilst 2007 had seen a failure to meet goals and targets set out for the year, this didn't truly represent failure, rather the naivety of the team a year earlier. Progress behind the scenes was enough to ensure these goals would be met in 2008 and thus 2007 was an 'evolution' in the team structure and mind set.
2008 - The year My3id Gaming was born.
The goal of My3id Gaming is to form a serious, competitive gaming team and establish corporate sponsors within the gaming industry. Being part of the larger My3id brand, it can serve as a promotional tool for My3id itself. In return the members are supplied with the 'swiss-army-knife' of team websites and a solid structure to build the team upon. Being a strong brand also increases the solidarity and seriousness of the outfit.
We have learned a lot about what is required of a member in this team since our founding in 2005. What we require of our members and details on how to apply to join us can be found on the Rules & Regulations page.
