My3id Gaming started its life back in 2005 under the rather silly title of 'Clownpaint Gaming'. The team was originally formed to fulfil the need for speed of its founder (Jack Basford) and act as a small promotional tool for his web projects. From 2005-2007 the only game the team played was Live for Speed.
In the beginning the team was assembled based purely on speed, under the assumption that a fast team would be a winning team. It would later become apparent that this was not the case. Such a selection process didn't evaluate the mindset or goals of individuals before letting them join. One by one, members chosen purely on speed failed to deliver their potential. Some lost interest in Live for Speed altogether and those that remained contributed little.
Tired of this cycle, Jack 'v1rg0' Basford decided to devote more of his spare time to the project, with the aim of establishing a winning gaming team capable of attracting sponsors.
Yet the cycle continued because to an extent the focus hadn't changed. The hunger for victory and lack of support within the team greatly reduced morale. At this time, the team had began to learn from the mistakes of the past and set about scouting up and coming talent. A 'dream team' of unsigned drivers was compiled and all were approached, but almost all declined a place in the team. Most immediately joined more respected and established rivals and demonstrated why they had been shortlisted, with a string of successful races and championships. At this point what had started as a hobby had become a chore. So much so that it seemed the only options were to merge and hand over leadership or shut down the team. The decision was made to attempt a merger with another team, in the process handing over the leadership role to someone who had more time and effort to spare. A merger would also bring a wave of new, more committed members.
A second party was discovered in the form of "Team Scream" and the details of the merger were agreed. The two teams would become "Team X". After the initial hype the merger failed to deliver. There were disagreements at the top about the direction and motivations of the team. Lasting only a matter of months, on the surface the merger appeared a complete failure. However, from it a loyal and dedicated core of members had formed around Jack and were happy to remain and pursue the same goals. Zafar 'r4ptor' Iqbal was without a doubt the most influential figure in this period. With his experience at a high level in the Counter-Strike scene, he was eventually made LFS team manager in late 2006, with Jack remaining as the director of the team. In Jack was the passion and enthusiasm to steer the team to success and in Zafar was the experience and maturity needed to properly manage and approach drivers.
This proved a successful formula and in late 2006 under this joint leadership, the team took its first steps towards the podium, entering several internationally broadcasted leagues on Live for Speed. But the team seemed to hit a glass roof. A string of tough results followed, brought on by hardware issues and more rarely by errors or a lack of commitment from a portion of the lineup. Despite all of that, 2006 represented a tipping point in the history of the team. The previously passive attitude of most members was gradually replaced by a more serious approach to events. Around this time roughly half of the active team was of this new mindset. Activity began to overtake inactivity and a strong will was, at last, becoming a majority trait.
All of the events leading up to this point caused a massive re-evaluation of the member selection process and the immediate dismissal of those that failed to comply. The team was making some progress in early 2007, with improved results and commitment from its members. Victories were still few and far between but the team was finally functioning properly and focused on achieving the results that it had set out over a year ago. Meanwhile off-track the team was being rebuilt from the ground up. The standard of the members themselves had risen considerably thanks to the tighter restrictions on recruitment. This enabled a shift to a more democratic form of management, giving the members more say in how things were run.
As the team grew, so did the web projects. It was time to shrug off silly names and become a professional gaming team. The My3id website was formed in the early days of the social networking boom, at the time when a young MySpace was becoming popular. In June of 2007 it was agreed that the team would become My3id Gaming, helping it to be taken more seriously and promote My3id.com. As July approached, progress within the team came at an alarming rate; new skins and tags were designed and work began on a new website. Within weeks all of it was heavily developed. These were exciting times to be in the newly titled My3id Gaming Team for everyone involved. For a team established on such a level of professionalism and organisation, the future would surely be bright.
As the changes neared completion morale and activity was at an all time high and increasing. Achievement records begun to be broken almost weekly and the project itself was rolled off the production line at a similar rate. Whilst 2007 didn't hit the targets set out at the start of the year, this said more about the naivety of the team that made said targets in late 2006. The philosophy of the team was becoming more concrete and long-term targets begun to break down to achievable steps. Thus, 2007 was an 'evolution' in the team structure and mindset of the team and formed a basis in reality for the "3 (free) your mind" slogan. Suddenly, the vision had become achievable.
2008 - The year My3id Gaming was born.
The goal of My3id Gaming is to form a serious, competitive gaming team and establish corporate sponsors within the gaming industry. Being part of the larger My3id brand, it can serve as a promotional tool for My3id itself. In return the members are supplied with the 'swiss-army-knife' of team websites and a solid structure to build the team upon. Being a strong brand also increases the solidarity and seriousness of the outfit.
We have learned a lot about what is required of a member in this team since our founding in 2005. What we require of our members and details on how to apply to join us can be found on the Rules & Regulations page.
