The first round of the FBM Trophy 2010 has seen the same driver winning all three races on server 1. 3id J.Lehikoinen was pre-qualified second behind CoRe S.Riegler. During lap 1 of the qualifying race, the 3id driver overtook S.Riegler, who immediately tried to strike back. In doing so the cars made contact. This send S.Riegler into a spin, causing him to finish 10th in the race that determined the starting grid of the sprint race. J.Lehikoinen was unaffected by the contact, which was deemed a racing incident by the marshals, and went on to win the qualifying race and then the sprint race from pole.
The main race turned out to be the most eventful, not in the least part due to the reversed top 8 starting grid. TEM O.Rinne used the pole position he was handed to take the lead and increase the distance to others as BRT Flip hold off the rest of the field in P2. However, in lap 6 the chance for a surprise winner quickly was diminished. O.Rinne took a little too much curb in the right hander starting the final complex, causing his car to flip and ending his race. Meanwhile, Flipīs efforts to keep the drivers behind him came to an end as first, one driver got past and then he made a small mistake, sending him into a spin. The first driver to profit? J.Lehikoinen.
Already in lap 1, Lehikoinen jumped up from P8 to P3 by using a chaotic ending of the lap to his advantage. After overtaking Flip and passing the stricken car of O.Rinne, the path seemed clear for his third win of the day. CoRe S.Riegler had other plans though. after finally taking over the second position, he closed the gap to the leader to under two seconds setting the fastest lap time in the process. J.Lehikoinen wasn't allowed to relax a single moment, but the Finnish driver kept his cool and finished ahead of S.Riegler, completing the perfect score in the opening round of the season.
The FBM Trophy continues on Sunday 15 August at South City Town. The results and standings as shown below show a minor fault in the points. This will be corrected after the SO Town race.
